How can we help?

The answers below cover almost everything. If yours is not here, email us — a person reads it, usually the person who built the app.

Subscription and billing

How do I cancel?

Through the App Store — Apple holds the subscription, so Protn cannot cancel it for you. Either route works:

  1. In Protn: Settings → Manage subscription.
  2. Or on your iPhone: Settings app → your name → Subscriptions → Protn → Cancel Subscription.

Cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends, or Apple will have already charged the next one. If you cancel during the 14-day trial you are never charged at all. You keep access until the end of the period you paid for, and after that your menu stays readable — nothing is deleted.

How do I restore a purchase?

If you reinstalled Protn, changed phones, or signed in on a second device, your subscription is still attached to your Apple ID.

  1. Make sure you are signed into the same Apple ID that bought it.
  2. Open Protn and go to the paywall screen.
  3. Tap Restore purchase at the bottom.

That is also the route if you are being asked to subscribe when you believe you already have. If it still does not come back, email hello@protnapp.com with the email on your Protn account and we will sort it out.

What does it cost?

14 days free, then $9.99 a month or $79.99 a year — the yearly plan works out at $6.67 a month, 33% less than paying monthly. Billing starts when the trial ends unless you cancel, and it renews until you cancel it.

Local prices are set per App Store storefront, so what you see in the app before you confirm is what you pay. Full detail in the Terms.

What can I do without paying?

Your first plan is free if you have never built one — no trial, no card. You answer the setup questions, Protn builds your menu, and you can read all of it.

Reading your menu is always free, even if a subscription lapses. The subscription covers the daily part: ticking meals and water off, the macro dashboard, and rebuilding your plan.

I was charged after cancelling

Almost always this is Apple’s 24-hour window: a cancellation inside the last day of a period lands after the renewal was already processed. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com, or through Settings → Manage subscription in Protn, which has a refund request flow built in. Email us too — we will back up your request with Apple.

Building your plan

How does plan generation work, and why does it take about 70 seconds?

You answer four short setup steps: your daily targets, the foods you are happy to eat on repeat, which meals you want and whether to track water, then a confirmation. After that Protn builds the menu, and here is what is happening in that minute or so:

  1. Your foods are resolved against a nutrition table. Anything we do not recognise is looked up once, sanity-checked against the relationship between its macros and its calories, and saved.
  2. Your daily targets are split across your meals. Each macro only goes to meals that can carry it — a pre-workout is a single carbohydrate, so it gets no protein share.
  3. An AI model builds the menu from your food list, meal by meal, against those per-meal budgets. This is the slow part, and it is the part that cannot be rushed without getting worse.
  4. The result is checked. Protn verifies the shape — one protein, one carbohydrate, one vegetable, one fat, only from your list — then snaps every portion to an amount you can actually weigh or count, then checks the totals against your targets.
  5. If it is outside tolerance, Protn repairs it and checks again, and if it still cannot land it, it tells you which food is the problem rather than saving a plan that is wrong.

So: around 70 seconds, and the app has not frozen. Leave it on screen and it will finish. The step it spends most of that time on is the model writing your menu, and the checking afterwards is why a saved plan is always inside tolerance.

It said it could not build a plan

That is deliberate. Protn will not save a plan that misses your targets, so instead it names the food most responsible. The usual causes:

  • Too few foods. Two or three choices per category gives it very little room. Add a couple more.
  • Targets that do not fit the foods. A high protein target with only high-fat proteins cannot land inside tolerance.
  • Very restrictive combinations. Each restriction removes foods before planning starts.

Adjust either side and build again. If it keeps failing, email us your targets and food list and we will look at it.

Can I change my plan or build a new one?

Yes. Rebuild as many times as you want on a subscription — new goal, new foods, new menu. During the review step of a build you can also change a portion or swap a food before saving, and Protn will refuse to save the result if your edit takes the plan outside tolerance.

Protn records those edits. When the same change repeats, it becomes a stored preference that later menus take into account. Every stored preference is listed in Settings → Preferences with what it came from, and you can delete any of them.

Why does it say 150 g of chicken but 1 banana?

Because that is how people actually handle food. Things you count are given as counts, things you weigh are given in grams, and every amount is rounded to something you can realistically measure — a whole unit, or a half for bananas, apples, avocados and scoops of whey.

One thing to know: meat weights are raw and starch weights are cooked. 150 g of chicken means 150 g before you cook it, because that is when you weigh it; 180 g of rice means cooked, for the same reason. Each amount says which.

What are day types?

During setup you pick one or two proteins for your main meals. If you pick two, each day you tap which kind of day it is and lunch and dinner follow that choice — chicken days and beef days, for instance. If you pick one, lunch and dinner are simply fixed and there is no toggle.

Your account and data

How do I delete my account?

You can do it yourself, inside the app. You do not need to email us.

  1. Open Protn and go to Settings.
  2. Tap Account, then Delete account.
  3. Confirm twice. The second confirmation is there on purpose, because this cannot be undone.

This deletes your profile and email, your targets, your food list, your plan and all its meals, your check-off and water history, and the preferences Protn had recorded. Backups holding the data rotate out within 30 days.

Cancel your subscription first. Deleting your Protn account does not cancel it, because Apple holds it — see how to cancel above, or you will keep being billed for an account that no longer exists.

Can I get a copy of my data?

Yes. Email hello@protnapp.com from the address on your account and we will send you everything we hold in a portable format, within 30 days and usually much sooner. There is no charge and we will not ask you why.

I forgot my password

On the sign-in screen, tap Forgot password and enter your email. The reset link arrives within a few minutes — check your spam folder if it does not. If the address no longer exists, email us from any address and tell us which account it was, and we will verify another way.

What data does Protn collect?

Your email, your health and fitness data (height, weight, age, sex, activity level, macro targets, the foods you eat and your daily check-offs), and your usage of the app. All of it is linked to your account — there is no anonymous mode, and we say so rather than implying otherwise.

It is never sold and never shared with advertisers. The Privacy Policy names every processor and exactly what each one receives, including what is and is not sent to the AI service that builds your plan.

The app itself

Does Protn work offline?

Mostly. Your saved menu and your check-offs are there without a connection. Building a plan needs one, because it calls a service to do it.

Is there an Android version?

Not yet. Protn is iPhone-only for now. If you want to be told when that changes, email us and we will keep your address for that and nothing else.

Is there a light mode?

No. Protn is dark-only for this version. Light mode is built but has never been properly looked at on every screen, and shipping it half-checked would be worse than not shipping it.

Can I log what I ate, or scan a barcode?

No, and that is the point rather than a missing feature. Protn is not a food logger and not a calorie counter. It decides your menu once, from foods you chose, so that the daily job is ticking a box instead of searching a database. If what you want is to record arbitrary meals after the fact, Protn is the wrong app and we would rather say so than take your money.

Still stuck?

Email hello@protnapp.com. Include the email on your account and what you were doing when it went wrong, and we can usually fix it on the first reply.

Protn gives general nutrition guidance, not medical advice. We cannot answer clinical questions — speak to a doctor or dietitian.
